In November 2024, the award winners of the APRSAF (Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum) Special Award for Long-term Contributions were announced, with seven experts honored this year. Mr SUZUKI has made significant contributions to the development of Sentinel Asia since its establishment. As the Executive Director of ADRC at the time, he played a central role in the founding of Sentinel Asia and served as Co-Chair of the Sentinel Asia Steering Committee from 2017 to 2023. Through his extensive knowledge and leadership, he successfully brought together committee members to formulate the strategic plan. He also raised awareness among disaster-related stakeholders in Asia, where satellite-based remote sensing technologies were not yet widely utilized, about the importance of leveraging satellite data for innovative and effective disaster response.
Currently, Mr SUZUKI continues to contribute as a member of the Disaster Management Committee at the National Space Policy Secretariat of the Cabinet Office, working on the development, demonstration, and application of disaster information transmission technologies utilizing the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS), which is the Japanese GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System).
