Heavy monsoon rains struck Myanmar in late July, triggering severe flooding and landslides that have caused casualties and widespread damage. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of 6 August, 16 people died, four remain missing, and over 131,000 individuals have been affected across Bago and Sagaing regions in southern Myanmar, and the states of Kayah, Kayin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan. Significant damage to infrastructure, homes and farmland has also been reported.
