Between 29 December 2016 and 2 January 2017, flooding in the provinces of West Java, Aceh, Central Java and East Java left thousands of homes underwater for two to three days. An estimated 22,000 people were directly affected and dozens of homes were damaged in Aceh.

Heavy rain has continued to affect several parts of the country over the past week causing more floods and landslides. As of 5 December, national authorities reported that four people have been killed in Central Java province due to a landslide, in East Java province and Jambi province due to floods. Over 17,000 houses have been damaged in the provinces of East Java, Jambi and Central Java.

Due to the overflow of the river system, Kawarang District, West Java Province was heavily flooded. Nearly 20,000 people were affected and 5,776 houses were inundated. Flood affected nearly 2,000 people and inundated 425 houses in Riau Province. Flood also affected 768 people in Central Java Province.

Flood that hit five sub-districts in Karawang Regency, Jawa Barat widely spread since 13 November at 15:00 PM. The flood caused 6,373 evacuees (893 families), while around 19,669 people (9,314 families) suffered due to impact of the flood.

Between 10 and 13 November 2016, incessant rains across Java Island and in Aceh and Jambi provinces triggered floods and flash floods. It is estimated that tens of thousands people were affected. In Jambi, one person was killed by flash floods.

According to official reports, as of 11 November early morning, over 2,100 households have been damaged and over 7,300 people have been affected by the floods in the regencies of Aceh Jaya and West Aceh.
