Fifteen people have been killed and eight others are missing after recent heavy rain and floods, mostly in south China, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Monday. More than 5.9 million people have been affected by the heavy rain, with 61,000 being displaced. More than 5,000 houses have collapsed.

Rainstorms since June 18 have left 26 people dead and three missing. The Ministry of Civil Affairs said that 4.9 million people in the provinces of Fujian, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality had been adversely affected by the rain as of 11 a.m. on 22 June, with 337,000 people relocated and 115,000 in urgent need of basic necessities.
