This course is aimed at those with or anticipating disaster management responsibilities but who may have a limited knowledge of theory and practice, such as government staff, personnel from non-governmental organisations, the military, the emergency services, UN agencies, academics and representatives of training institutions. The course covers a wide range of content and allows participants to focus on the specific hazards that may concern them in their jobs. The three options cover slow onset disasters (such as droughts and refugee emergencies), rapid onset disasters (such as earthquakes, floods and hurricanes or cyclones) and civil emergencies and man-made disasters (such as chemical and industrial accidents, transport accidents and crowd related disasters). Participants will also be asked to complete a written project related to their actual or anticipated disaster management responsibilities.
