The tremor caused fissures in buildings notably in the hospital in El Progreso.Some electricity posts have also fallen. Neither the health network nor any public buildings have been built to withstand tremors or earthquakes.

Serious damage has been experienced by the local electrical network, the airport as well as a number of houses.
Guatemala
The town of Livingstone was the most damaged. Houses have suffered and part of the population was evacuated. In Puerto Barrios, severe damage occurred to the road infrastructure, houses and the energy system.

At least one person was killed and 27 injured. It's been raining for the past two days in Puerto Barrios, and with all this water and the quake, the Tepemechines River has overflowed its banks and carried away a number of poor houses.
