ADRC Report
As of 1:00 p.m. (local time) on August 10, the government’s tally stood at 111 dead and 87 injured; by evening, media reports had raised the death toll to 132. In addition, damage was reported to over 1,600 buildings (1,575 residential homes damaged, 37 completely destroyed, and 61 buildings collapsed), as well as to 18 medical facilities, 52 educational facilities, 18 major roads, and 6 regional airports. Part of the passenger terminal at Matecaña International Airport in Pereira collapsed; the tower of the cathedral in Manizales collapsed into the nave; and approximately 30% of the university hospital in Cali was damaged. The president declared a national disaster, established an integrated command center in Chocó Department, and deployed USAR4 teams and the military. There was no tsunami.

On August 10, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck with its epicenter in the department of Chocó, Colombia, and damage was reported in nine municipalities in Chocó, eight in Caldas, two in Risaralda, and two in Valle del Cauca, among others.
The government has convened the National Disaster Management Committee and is dispatching four search and rescue (USAR) teams and mobilizing heavy machinery to assess the damage in each area and carry out emergency relief efforts.
