Outline An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale occurred on 28 March at 00:35 local time (19:05 GMT). The earthquake hit the state of Utter Pradesh, approximately 190 km northeast of New Delhi. 100 people have reportedly been killed, some 250 injured and 156 houses damaged. Mild tremors continued to rock the area.

"People were very panicky," said Naranpra Prasad, a senior officer with the engineer wing of India's paramilitary Border Security Force.
The second quake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, hit the Rudraprayag district of Uttar Pradesh state at 2:32 a.m. (2102 GMT Tuesday), striking fear among the hundreds of people who have been camping in the open since the first temblor on Monday morning.

The government has confirmed 100 deaths from Monday's quake,and some 350 people were injured. Authorities feared more deaths and destruction from the aftershocks of Monday's quake. 2,500 houses destroyed. Army helicopters were dropping food to villages leveled by the deadly Himalayan quake, but poor victims left homeless by the powerful tremor complained the help wasn't coming fast enough.

100 people were killed,394 injured,and 372,000people were affected. Over 21,100 house destroyed and 804 villages were affected. Currently 74 relief centers are in operation. Relief materials, including 4,000 food packages, have been distributed in the affected area. Tents, tarpaulins and blanket are still being distributed.
