Heavy rains from two major low pressures pounded coastal areas of India and Bangladesh in the Bay of Bengal since last weekend. Reportedly, at least 33 people have been killed in Southern India and 16 fishermen are thought to be dead in Bangladesh. The weather office in the Orissa state in India forecasts more rain for the province in the next 48 hours.

An estimated 1,000 fishermen are missing and 15 have drowned after storms hit the Bay of Bengal near the southern coast of Bangladesh. Saturday's storms brought heavy rains and caused the sea to rise up to 3m (10ft) in coastal areas.
