Paraguay:Drought:1999/10

Duration1999/10 Paraguay is being affected by drought growing more and more severe since the month of June 1999. According to meteorological forecasts for the next three months, the country will receive below normal rainfall, and temperatures are expected to be above normal.Approximately 100,000 persons have been affected by this drought emergency.

    In response to a request from the Government of the Republic of Paraguay, which has sustained a disaster from drought and forest fires, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency assistance in kind comprising polyethylene tanks, water purifiers and medicines, equivalent to about 11 million yen.
