Duration2002/08/01 While states in eastern and northeastern India are enduring floods, many others are hit by drought. The Government of India (GOI) has declared 13 out of Indian's 29 states drought-stricken. The drought situation is serious in the northern states, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
