Japan:Earthquake:2024/04/17
Duration 2024/04/17 An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 hit Ehime and Kochi prefectures in western Japan at around 23:14 on 17 April 2023. The quake registered lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the prefectures and its focus was in a strait separating the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, called the Bungo Channel, at a depth of 39 kilometers. As the government scrambled for information on the extent of the quake damage, there were reports of buildings with broken windowpanes, ruptured water pipes and dangling power cables in the area.
