Workshop on Advanced Emergency Management operated by Canadian Center for Emergency Preparedness
|
The workshop will allow for a better understanding of risk, prevention, catastrophe, and potential long-term impacts.
All aspects and elements of Comprehensive Emergency Management Programs, as described in NFPA 1600 and other documents, will be covered. The workshop will provide a unique, in-depth look into the chain of events leading to and the development of recent manmade and natural disasters. Events in rural regions with limited resources (I.e., the Kaprun, Austria, funicular fire in 2000; the Enschede, Netherlands, fireworks plant explosion in 2000; the Eschede, Germany, high-speed train crash in 1998; the Gothenburg, Sweden, riots in 2001), as well as experiences from major metropolitan areas (I.e., the 9-11-01 terrorist attacks in NYC; the Los Angeles Earthquake in 1994; the Chernobyl, USSR, atomic plant disaster in 1985), and the current threat of terrorism will be examined and solutions presented.
