The main purpose the research is to establish a solid observational basis and theoretical framework for understanding earthquakes and volcanoes, that will lead to prediction of these important natural hazards. We are involved in numerous field projects, laboratory experiments, and theoretical studies which contribute to the understanding of earthquakes, volcanoes, and the hazards that they pose to the society.
