International Disaster Risk Management Course (IDRMC) operated by International Institute for Disaster Risk Management Center
|
To manage contemporary challenges to human safety and security, an approach is necessary which enables an integrated analysis for the identification, assessment, and management of a wide range of risks both natural and man-made. Such an approach is a pre-condition for sustainable risk reduction in developing countries, where deteriorating environmental, social and governance-related conditions are challenging the validity of conventional disaster management approaches. Risk management offers a rational, user friendly and holistic alternative for integrated disaster risk reduction. Using an international risk management standard (AS/NZS 4360:1999) as its conceptual basis, IDRMC, aims to provide a solid foundation in the key principles, concepts and methods of risk and disaster management. While differentiating between various approaches, and integrating a wide-range of cross-cutting issues, it seeks to impart a thorough understanding of the theory, and build solid skills in the practice of risk and disaster management.
