Sindh health authorities on Thursday announced five more deaths in the province — four in Karachi and one in Tando Allahyar as it formally lifted the ‘heatwave emergency’it had imposed earlier. All available resources were put forward to deal with the heatwave which killed 1,271 alone in the metropolis since June 20, when the first heatstroke victims arrived at hospitals.

While the punishing heatwave gripping Karachi since 21st June showed signs of subsiding, the death toll across Sindh rose to 1,011, with at least 229 fatalities reported on 24th June by government and private hospitals.

The death toll from a heatwave in southern Pakistan rose to 750 on 24th June, but the scorching weather showed signs of easing, bringing some respite to the sweltering city of Karachi. Temperatures in the city, which is Pakistan largest and has seen the majority of the deaths, were forecast to peak at 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit), down from the 40-plus highs of recent days. Winds have shifted to the southwest, blowing cooler air into the port city from the Arabian Sea, and the Pakistani Met Office has predicted rain, which would bring lower temperatures.

More than 500 people have died from a three-day heatwave in southern Pakistan. The majority of the deaths occurred in the port city of Karachi, Pakistan economic hub of around 20 million people, where temperatures reached 45 degrees Celsius (111 Fahrenheit) at the weekend.The number of people who have died due to the heatwave in government hospitals is now more than 500. The death toll may go up.

Another 309 people lost their lives in Sindh on 22nd June as the punishing heat wave baked the province amid prolonged outages and stacking up of bodies in morgues. Since 21st June evening, 445 people have perished across the province in the heat wave which shows no signs of abating.
