The death toll from devastating floods and landslides in Haiti and the Dominican Republic rose to at least 1,950 on Wednesday with the discovery of more than 1,000 bodies in a Haitian town.

Floods and mudslides have killed more than 500 people in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, many of them swept to their deaths when rain-swollen rivers burst their banks.

In the Dominican Republic, heavy rains during the past 48 hours have been affecting the whole country. Preliminary reports indicate 45 people killed, 120 injured and 200 missing.
