Flash floods and mudslides in Sri Lanka have killed at least 39 people and more than 1 million have had to flee their homes in the past two weeks.
Floods and mudslides triggered by heavy rain have killed at least 14 people in Sri Lanka and driven 80,000 from their homes, police and officials said Friday, 26 December 2014.
Heavy northeast monsoon rain affected around 47,000 people, with 9,500 people displaced to 73 safety centres. 24 houses were fully destroyed and nearly 180 houses were partially damaged due to floods and high wind.
Seven people have died and over 12,000 are living in 96 safety centers. Over 140 houses are destroyed with another 3,400 damaged.
