OCHA Situation Report No. 3 1999/11/10
This report is based on the preliminary findings of the joint assessment mission from 3 to 5 November conducted by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ministry of Health, Ghana Armed Forces, UN agencies, USAID, Ghana Red Cross and NGOs.
In the Northern Region, the largest of all affected regions, with many rivers flowing to the Volta Lake, all 13 districts were severely affected. Districts of East Gonja, West Gonja, Nanumba, West Mamprusi and Bole are of particular concern.
Many areas are still covered with water.

At end of October, the estimated number of affected population is as follows: 290,000 displaced and over 50 deaths. 31,000 houses have collapsed and 117,000 acres of farmlands have been destroyed.
