    Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has pledged aid to the Maldives on a priority basis in the wake of the national disaster in the Maldives caused by the tsunami that struck the country this morning. Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the tsunami has also caused damage to India causing nearly 1600 casualties. President Gayoom thanked the Indian Prime Minister for pledging assistance to the Maldives at this time of national tragedy. He said that relief efforts were continuing and that foreign assistance plays an important role in this regard.
