At least 53 people are dead or missing after the heaviest rains in a century lashed the South Korean capital Seoul and surrounding areas, officials said on Thursday, with damage expected to run into hundreds of millions of dollars.
At least 32 people have been killed in landslides in South Korea, as heavy rain deluged homes and caused chaos across northern areas of the country.

The landslide, which occurred just after midnight near the Soyang River Dam in Chuncheon about 100 km (62 miles) east of Seoul, destroyed a pension and three homes.
