Outline On 6 and 7 July, two strong earthquakes (5.4 and 5.2 on the Richter scale, respectively) shook the main central coastal region of Nicaragua. Its epicentre was situated 6 kilometres from Masaya city, resulting in significant damage to populated mountainside villages and infrastructure.
Local media indicate 4 dead, 42 injured, and some 200 houses damaged. About 400 people have been evacuated from the area close to the epicentre.

The first one killed four children, nearly 50 people were injured.The second quake killed three people and injured dozens of others. The first quake, more than 200 dwellings were destroyed in cities and communities along the coast. The second quake destroyed tens of houses in the city of Masaya and the nearby town of Tiscapa, southeast of the capital Managua.

Some 200 homes were destroyed and streets buckled in the area of Laguna de Apoyo, where the quake was centered, some 30 kilometers (20 miles) southeast of the capital.
