The Viet Nam Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported that 17 people have died with 8 others injured due to torrential rain, floods and landslides that happened in Quang Ninh as the most affected province.

Continuous torrential rains and floods over the weekend have left three people dead and six injured in the northern mountainous provinces of Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La and Lao Cai. The natural calamity also resulted in the collapse and submergence of hundreds of houses in the northern region.
Earlier, 17 others died and eight were injured in Quang Ninh Province due to torrential rains that started on July 26 and became the province\\\'s worst disaster in the last 40 years.

So far the flooding has left 17 people dead and eight missing. Almost 4,000 houses, schools and hospital buildings have been flooded and over 1,000 hectares of crops and aquaculture has been damaged. Current economic losses are estimated to be VND 1 trillion (USD 45.8 million).

Three more people were missing and a number of local tourists remained stranded on nearby Co To island, which is cut off from the mainland due to torrential rain.
