2024/04/17 Japan Earthquake An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 hit Ehime and Kochi prefectures in western Japan at around 23:14 on 17 April 2023. The quake registered lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the prefectures and its focus was in a strait separating the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, called the Bungo Channel, at a depth of 39 kilometers. As the government scrambled for information on the extent of the quake damage, there were reports of buildings with broken windowpanes, ruptured water pipes and dangling power cables in the area. Some people were also taken to hospital after falling over. 2024/04/03 Russian Federation (the) Flood, Flashflood Severe floods and flash floods, mainly due to rapid snow melting caused by warm temperature but also due to heavy rainfall, have been affecting south-western Russia, in particular the Orenburg Region, and the neighbouring north-western Kazakhstan since 3 April 2024, resulting in casualties and widespread damage. 2024/04/03 Taiwan Earthquake An earthquake offshore Taiwan with a magnitude of 7.2 rocked the capital Taipei on Wednesday morning, 3 April 2024, knocking out power in several parts of the city and sparking a tsunami warning for the islands of southern Japan and the Philippines. 2024/03/31 Pakistan Flood Heavy rainfall and heavy hailstorms have been affecting north-western Pakistan (in particular the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province) since 31 March 2024, triggering landslides and causing floods and a number of severe weather-related incidents (particularly due to hailstorms) that have resulted in casualties and damage. 2024/03/29 Kazakhstan Flood Due to warming temperatures and heavy rains, flooding has begun in several regions of Kazakhstan. Currently, local authorities have declared a state of emergency in six regions of the country. More than 13 thousand people have been evacuated and more than 1,500 private houses have been flooded.

The Thoughts of ADRC

ADRC was founded in 1998 in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The mission is to enhance disaster resilience of its member countries, to create safe communities where people can live with peace of mind, and to create a society that enables sustainable development.
For the purpose, the ADRC is promoting the establishment of multilateral networks through personnel exchanges and a variety of other programs for disaster risk reduction in Asia.
