At least 29 persons have been killed by landslides and floods triggered by heavy monsoon downpours on 28th and 29th July 2001,in Baglung and Myagdhi districts. It caused widespread damage to crops, private property and infra-structure.
A landslide cascaded down a steep hill buried alive seven
members of a family at a village in Baglung Sunday morning. The mudslides washed
away three bridges and destroyed crops at Tara village.
Another mudslide triggered by heavy monsoon rains buried alive 15 persons at Urman village in Magyadi district Saturday including six members of one family. Bodies of 13 persons were extricated from the rubble Monday.
The landslide buried a school, eight houses and damaged another 10 hutments in the village. Landslides buried six members of another family at another village nearby while floods swept away another person.Fifteen houses were washed away in the district and swept away several bridges.
Bad weather is hampering actively relief, search and rescue operations in the district.Anyway,relief, search and rescue operations is going on in the disaster affected areas.The weather is not good till this evening. Yesterday,The government has set aside Nepalese Rs.10 million for the reconstruction of bridges and a school in Myagdhi.
