2024/04/18 China Flood Four people were killed and 10 others remain missing after continuous heavy rainfall hit many parts of Guangdong Province in south China since 18 April 2024, local authorities said on 22 April 2024. The recent heavy rainfall has affected many cities including Shaoguan, Guangzhou, Heyuan, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Meizhou and Huizhou, resulting in damaged houses, blocked roads and landslides. Guangdong has so far relocated some 110,000 residents. 2024/04/17 Japan Earthquake An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 hit Ehime and Kochi prefectures in western Japan at around 23:14 on 17 April 2023. The quake registered lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the prefectures and its focus was in a strait separating the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, called the Bungo Channel, at a depth of 39 kilometers. As the government scrambled for information on the extent of the quake damage, there were reports of buildings with broken windowpanes, ruptured water pipes and dangling power cables in the area. Some people were also taken to hospital after falling over. 2024/04/12 Pakistan Flood From 12 to 16 April 2024, Pakistan faced unprecedented devastation caused by heavy rains, lightning and flash floods. This unfortunate event led to the tragic loss of 53 human lives, with over 50 individuals sustaining injuries. Further, 13 schools and over 1,400 houses were damaged, while over 200 livestock perished, and various other properties were impacted. 2024/04/10 Afghanistan Flood Between 10 and 16 April 2024, Afghanistan experienced heavy rains and flash floods across the central, central highlands, northern, northeastern, southern and western regions. Preliminary reports indicate that almost 1,590 families have been affected, with 35 people killed and another 47 people injured, while 46 families have been displaced. 2024/04/03 Taiwan Earthquake An earthquake offshore Taiwan with a magnitude of 7.2 rocked the capital Taipei on Wednesday morning, 3 April 2024, knocking out power in several parts of the city and sparking a tsunami warning for the islands of southern Japan and the Philippines.

ADRC was founded in 1998 in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The mission is to enhance disaster resilience of its member countries, to create safe communities where people can live with peace of mind, and to create a society that enables sustainable development.
For the purpose, the ADRC is promoting the establishment of multilateral networks through personnel exchanges and a variety of other programs for disaster risk reduction in Asia.
